The Majestic Batu Karu Temple & Tanah Lot Temple

Batu Karu Temple falls into the Sad Kahyangan Jagat category (made up of six smaller temples). It is believed that Empu Kuturan erected the temple during the 11th century AD. Many ancient remains inside include some Dwarapala (temple guardians) figures which greet you as you enter and protect the temple from potentially evil influences. The rain forests around mount Batu Karu are considered to be sacred grounds by the Balinese. Several temples were built amidst the serenity of this dense tropical rain forest. The Temple Pura Luhur Batu Karu on the mountain southern’s slope is the holiest of them all. Amidst the pure mountain air and the sweet scent of the wet soil, one could feel the energy of this special place. Combining the trip to Tanah Lot temple makes this excursion a relaxing day out.
